Carey was a fashion model. She's 5'10" tall, and was popular among high-end American designers, such as Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, etc. In 1979 in 1979, the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists voted her dad Scientist of the Year. Her father was a scientist who travelled around the world as part of his career. When she was a student at in the University of Colorado, Carey began modeling on the side. The Ford Model Agency located in New York noticed her and was willing to assist. The model briefly studied and lived in Paris after which she returned back to New York. Her modeling and academic career rocketed and she appeared on the covers of Glamour's and Vogue's as well as many other covers of magazines. She attended full-time classes at New York University, obtaining her degree in literature between modeling assignments. While she was studying acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse, New York, her enthusiasm for the field grew. Her debut as an actor was as a character with Robin Williams in the 1986 film "Club Paradise. Her leisure time is spent ski, wind surfing as well as rock climbing, and white water rafting.
